No-exam life insurance

Who can qualify for accelerated underwriting, what the process includes, and what happens if you don't.

An increasing number of carriers provide accelerated underwriting: within age and coverage limits, decisions are made using your application data, prescription history, motor-vehicle records, and other available information instead of requiring a physical exam. Many approvals are issued the same business day. Each quote here shows whether an exam is required, possibly required, or optional for that specific product.

What it changes

Acceleration doesn't mean the underwriting is skipped. The carrier verifies your responses through prescription records, driving records, and other data. A policy issued based on false information can be contested within the first two years. If the carrier's records raise any questions, they may still request an exam or lab tests; you'll know at that point whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Usually people younger than around 60 years old, applying for amounts below the carrier's accelerated underwriting threshold, with no serious health conditions in their history and no tobacco use within the past year. If you recently had bloodwork from a doctor, some carriers will use those results instead of requesting a new exam.

When an exam is necessary, expect a quick 20-30 minute appointment with a paramedical professional, conducted at your home or workplace in El Cajon, at no charge to you. For many people with good health markers, exam results can improve your final rate tier—so the exam often proves beneficial rather than harmful.
